Later in life, I came to the law, having worked in various jobs and acquiring considerable organisational experience. This background sparked an interest in advocacy and service, which led to the law and started legal practice in 1990.
I joined Kensington Swan, where I was fortunate to gain experience across several legal disciplines before becoming a partner in the firm’s employment law team. In 2001 I established a boutique law firm in Central Auckland that focused on employment and education law and aspects of civil litigation. Gretchen Stone joined me, and we built the practice of Harrison Stone, with whom I continue to maintain an association as an independent barrister.
I am particularly interested in working with people, businesses and organisations to get an effective result. My approach often involves strategizing around the client’s longer-term interest or what the business/organisation is attempting to achieve and building the legal response or strategy around this, rather than the other way round.
I look for practical and cost-effective solutions while also accepting that there are times to dig in and litigate. It is recognising when this is the right strategy and, if so, I am well experienced in managing the litigation or dispute process in most legal forums and courts.
I know it can be hard to find the right legal advisor I offer and introductory consultation without cost.
I will review your case or situation and advise and provide initial advice including a referral if needed to ensure you get the right representation.
